What is this scanner?
The Timeframe Cascade scanner finds coins where the daily, 4h, and 15-minute charts all agree on direction simultaneously. This multi-timeframe alignment is rare — most of the time, different timeframes are in conflict. When all three agree, conviction is highest and setup quality is at its peak.
The scanner uses a composite of EMA stack, price position, and momentum on each timeframe. A 3/3 score means the big picture and the near-term picture are in complete agreement — these are the setups that produce clean, trending moves with minimal whipsaw.
Origin & History
Multi-timeframe analysis is a concept as old as technical analysis itself, but it was formalized into a trading framework by Dr. Alexander Elder in his 1992 book 'Trading for a Living.' Elder's Triple Screen system — analyzing daily, 4h, and 1h charts in sequence — became a standard approach.
The QSA implementation quantifies what Elder described qualitatively. Instead of requiring manual chart analysis across timeframes, the scanner computes alignment scores using EMA slopes and momentum readings, creating a single numeric signal. The 3/3 alignment filter is stringent — it fires less frequently but with far higher follow-through rates than single-timeframe systems.
Detection Criteria
Daily Trend Score
Daily chart EMA stack (8/21/50), price above/below key MAs, and momentum direction all evaluated. Bullish requires all three to be positive.
4h Trend Score
4-hour EMA alignment and price position evaluated. The 4h is the 'intermediate' timeframe — it filters out daily noise while capturing multi-day trends.
15m Trigger Score
15-minute chart entry timing — momentum and price position confirm the direction matches the higher timeframes. This is the precision entry signal.
Alignment Count
Signal strength is 1, 2, or 3 depending on how many timeframes agree. Only 3/3 (full cascade) generates high-grade signals.
Grading Breakdown
3/3 timeframe alignment with all EMA stacks in order, above-average volume on the 15m, and regime confirming as NORMAL or better. The highest conviction entry type.
3/3 alignment with strong higher timeframes and a valid 15m trigger, but volume or regime is not ideal.
2/3 alignment with the daily and 4h agreeing but 15m not yet triggered. Wait for the entry timeframe to catch up.
Daily direction is established but 4h has not confirmed. Monitor for cascade to complete before acting.
Common Mistakes
Forcing trades when only 2/3 timeframes align. The power of this scanner is the discipline of waiting for full alignment — 2/3 setups have dramatically lower win rates.
Entering immediately on 3/3 alignment without considering price distance from support. Even perfect alignment can produce losing trades if entered too extended.
Not re-checking alignment after a trade is open. A cascade can break down mid-trade as the 15m turns against you — check it at each candle close.
Using this scanner during CHAOS regime. When the entire market is chaotic, short-term (15m) readings become highly unreliable and cascade alignment false-fires frequently.
How to Trade
Entry Context
Enter on the 15m trigger candle close when the cascade reaches 3/3. This is your precision entry after the higher timeframes have confirmed direction.
Risk Management
Stop below the most recent 15m swing low (for longs) or 15m swing high (for shorts). Exit if the 15m timeframe reverses and breaks its most recent swing against you. Risk 1-2% of portfolio.
Target Framework
Use the 4h chart to identify targets — next major resistance for longs, next support for shorts. The cascade trade rides the 4h move, entered with 15m precision.
